About course:
The Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology is an undergraduate course affiliated to the University of Kerala and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). NISH has been successfully running the course since 2002.
The main aim of the course is to generate skilled and efficient manpower to work effectively with persons having communication disorders. The course is highly advisable to individuals who have a passion to work among the differently abled people in the society and to make a change in their lives.
The course consists of both theory as well as clinical practice. With the availability of state of art test equipment, experienced faculty, diverse clinical populations available in the clinics and a well equippedlibrary ,NISH offers an excellent learning experience for the aspiring students.
The job opportunities are diverse ranging from hospitals, special schools, speech and hearing institutes, hearing instrument manufacturing industry, government and non-government agencies working for the disabled as well as to do independent practice.
Course structure
The course duration is 3+1 years divided into 6 semesters and a final year of internship where the students will be posted in various clinical setups within and out of the institute. This helps in the professional development of the students and their adaptability to work in various clinical set ups.
The course covers topics on Audiology, Speech language pathology, along with allied subjects like Anatomy, physiology, ENT, Technology related to speech and hearing, Linguistics, Psychology, Statistics etc.
The students also have clinical postings in various departments including Audiology Clinics, Speech Language Pathology Diagnostics, Speech Language Therapy, Ear Mould Laboratory as well as Special Clinics.
The ASLP department also conducts seminars and lectures by eminent personalities in the field to motivate the students and increase their professional skills and academic knowledge.
Clinical conferences are arranged for the students fortnightly wherein the students have to do case presentations. The students are also encouraged to carry out research under the guidance of staff and are allowed to present research papers in relevant seminars and conferences and journals.
